Cover art This work was commissioned by the combined Elementary School programs of the Department of Defense Dependents’ Schools in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Vogelweh Elementary School there had a thriving band program for grades 3–5. Kaiserslautern Elementary School nearby had a similar thriving orchestra program for the same grade levels.

This piece was inspired—rather obviously!—by Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man.

This piece was premiered at the 1989 annual performance of the “World’s Largest Concert”, by the combined band and orchestra of both schools.
